Learning about other cultures, having adventures, and meeting new people has always been part of my life, and so has my faith. My travels have added to my spiritual growth as a woman traveling alone or with friends on vacation. How to grow in faith as you travel?
I’ve found that the most important thing to do is to take the time. Everything takes time to learn, grow, or improve, and so does our faith. I don’t mean striving to be better but taking time to grow. I pray this post will help you grow in your faith as you travel.
Make the time
As you know, life is going fast, and vacation seems to excel. That is why it’s so important to make the time to grow in your faith even when you travel. Carve out specific time for spiritual growth.
For me I like to wake up early. I know some of you are like, what? But watching the sunrise in the morning when it’s quiet and still are some of the best memories on my travels.
My first time to Africa, I would wake up at 5:30 to see the sun come up and it will forever be in my memory. Watching the giraffes walk across the Africa landscape. I wish all of you reading this could see it. Spectacular. I can definitely say it helped me to grow in my faith, and belief in God’s majesty.
Journal your journey
Take the time to journal, read your Bible, and jot down things you might have noticed on your trip. I have always kept a journal and am so glad I did. But if you’re not into writing, try another way of recording your journey.
The iPhone has a good app journal where you can add photos, notes, and audio. It’s great. One thing I really like to do on trips is record the audio. Nature sounds are so different depending on the country you are in. I have also recorded audio at markets. It’s a fun memory to listen to after your trip and adds to your digital journal.
I have lived and been to many majestic places, most recently the Canyons on the reservation in Arizona. Their beauty is breathtaking. When I look at them at sunset, I feel closer to God.
Connect with Nature
Think about the moments you saw an incredible sunset or sunrise? I don’t know about you, but those moments have drawn me closer to God. Just knowing that God created the Universe and cares about me.
Get outside or at least the balcony of where you might be staying and listen to the sounds, look at the colors and experience the nature.
Travel for a cause
Go on a mission or service trip. This will definitely grow your faith. As a Christian woman, I’ve been on many mission trips, all of which have helped my spiritual growth.
If you’re not ready for a mission trip, do one day on a service project. This will take some planning, but it can help you grow and gain a new perspective.
Go to a church service.
I love going to new churches worldwide and in the U.S. On mission trips, you almost always visit the local church. It’s a fun way to connect and get exposed to the culture, style of worship, and people in the area.
Just expanding your experience can grow your faith.
Travel to grow Spiritually.
I’ve been so blessed to take trips to locations where my sole purpose was to grow spiritually. One place I have gone is L’abre in the United States and in Switzerland. If you are searching and unsure what you believe, L’abre can be an incredible place.
It was started by Francis Schaeffer and his wife Edith in Huémoz-sur-Ollon, Switzerland. Then, they opened one in the United States. Both are very beautiful.
Traveling with faith helps you see things from a different perspective and appreciate the world God created in new ways.
So, pack your suitcase and go and grow on that trip!
