How to start a prayer routine on the go.
I’m sure you are busy. If you are like me you’re burning the candle of both ends.
And have great intentions every day to get up earlier and pray. But it’s a struggle, and every morning, something happens to interrupt you.
Personally, I am working two jobs while building a brand. Raising kids while caring for an elderly parent.
It’s hard, and I know you have things going on as well.
But I also know that praying daily and spending time with God can and will transform your life.
So here are the things I started doing to make it a routine in my life and to make sure, I have time to pray daily.
The first thing I did.
Pray and ask God to help you.
Yes, I prayed that I would have time to pray. Funny, I know.
My schedule, demands, and time were a constant struggle. I needed help.
So, I ask God to help me have consistent time daily for prayer.
Then, after a little while, things started to change. I got fewer and fewer interruptions.
Until the time I set to pray was consistent.
I also made some different choices. Which I will share next.
But I want to let you know there will be resistance when you start to pray daily and seek God.
The Bible says,
The thief cometh not, but that he may steal, and kill, and destroy: I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.
John 10:10
One of the things the enemy comes to take away from our lives is time.
Time away from God, time away from the Bible, and time away from each other.
You are the only one who can resist the enemy stealing your time.
This leads me to the other way to build a prayer routine on the go.
Identify where your time is going.
Sometimes, when we need to change, we need to identify where it can happen.
Here is my personal example.
Over the last year, I no longer checked my phone in the mornings.
This was where my time was going without even noticing it.
I would check my emails, click on social media, look at messages, and read the news.
Then, 25 minutes passed, and I was out of time.
So, I started checking where I was spending my time and where I was wasting it.
Now, I never look at my phone until after I have my prayer time.
Make it a Routine.
When is the best time for you?
Some people like to pray and walk, so you could do both at the same time.
I do my prayer time in the morning after I read my Bible and journal.
But for a while, life was so chaotic that I was run out of time.
So, right after, I put the kids to sleep. I’d spend 10 minutes praying for them.
That way, I knew I would get my prayer time in for them daily.
Do it an hour a week or daily. However, prayer fits into your schedule.
The most important thing is to make it a routine in your life.
I really believe daily prayer even if it’s just five minutes a day can change your day and life.
Set a timer
About two years ago, I started using the time box method. This is when you put a time limit on different tasks.
People who do multi-task jobs or own multiple companies organize their time this way. It’s by setting a set amount of time to do certain things.
Now, this has helped me make sure I get my prayer time daily. I started with a 10-minute timer, and now I try to pray 15 minutes a day.
As I mentioned above, five minutes can really make a difference when you start a prayer routine.
Write it out.
This has also helped me. I like to write out prayers and pray them until I see an answer or change.
I also like to pray scriptures over my life and those I love.
Here is an example of praying a scripture.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Here is how I write it as a prayer.
“Father, in everything I do, I declare it will be unto you, not for human approval or expansion but for you and your glory and kingdom. I know that my inheritance is from you. I am serving Jesus.”
I find a verse then I write a prayer around it.
