The Lone Star State is a land of wide-open spaces, rich history, and vibrant culture. There are hundreds of places to visit. But here is my must see places to visit in Texas my home state and one I love. I am a Texas girl through and through. And Texas offers something for every adventurer, from amazing city life to wonderful rugged mountains and adventurers.
But if you’re new here or need help figuring out where to go, here are a few options. My top place to visit is Texas.
Fort Worth
I am a third-generation Fort Worthian and I love my city, and it has some definite must-sees. If you’re not from here, it is not Dallas. We don’t cross over, and they don’t come here that much either. Actually, there is a little rivivalry. Our universities, TCU and SMU, have a huge rivalry. All jokes aside, there are some amazing things in both and incredible barbecue in both.
- Fort Worth Zoo-one of the top zoo’s in the nation
- Kimbal Art Museum-people from all over the world come to see the museum.
- Modern Museum of Art-fun and beautiful.
- The stock-yards-fun place to visit with a Texas flair
I am going to throw out a disclaimer. If you are coming to Fort Worth during spring break and want to go to the Zoo, make sure you have extra time because it could take hours to park. But if you want a fun vacation in the slow season come when kids are in school. Early hours have been slow and if you go during the week it’s best just check and make sure they are open that day.
Granbury
This is my home away from home. It’s not too crowded, and it still has that small-town feel that Fort Worth used to. Downtown Granbury is adorable and “Babe’s Restaurant” is some of the best fried chicken.
Also, Glen Rose is just a little bit away, and they have “Fossil Rim,” an incredible drive-through safari. It’s comparable to Safari in Africa (not the same, but it has the same feel). They do incredible animal conservation, so although it’s expensive, it’s still worth the fun because you are helping the same animal species.
San Antonio
Steeped in rich heritage, San Antonio is a city where the echoes of the Alamo intertwine with the energy of modern marvels. Here are two must-dos to experience the best of San Antonio:
- Embrace the Alamo Spirit: Immerse yourself in the legendary siege at the Alamo. This iconic mission-turned-fortress is a powerful reminder of Texas’ fight for independence. And echo’s the Texas anthem of “Come and Take it.” Explore the exhibits, wander the grounds, and feel the weight of history.
- Riverwalk: It’s fun and has a rich history.
- Pearl Street: Great food and fun atmosphere.
If you are looking for fewer people and more on the outdoor side of life then try.
Big Bend National Park
Escape the urban bustle and discover the breathtaking beauty of Big Bend National Park. Nestled along the Rio Grande on the Texas-Mexico border, Big Bend boasts dramatic canyons, vast Chihuahuan Desert landscapes, and a star-studded night sky unlike any other.
- Hike the South Rim for Panoramic Vistas: Lace up your boots and embark on a hike along the South Rim Trail. This moderate-difficulty path rewards you with awe-inspiring views of the Chisos Mountains and the Rio Grande snaking through the desert valley below. Keep your eyes peeled for diverse desert wildlife like javelina, bighorn sheep, and roadrunners!
- Stargazing Extravaganza: As night falls, Big Bend transforms into a stargazer’s paradise. With minimal light pollution, the night sky explodes beautiful stars and sights of the Milky Way. Whether you’re a seasoned astronomer or a curious novice, a stargazing experience in Big Bend National Park will leave you breathless.
