Have you ever wished for a “yes day?” One where everyone in your life says, “Yes,” I can do that, or “Sure,” I will put that laundry up right away. The power of saying “yes” is something that most people dream of, but what if the power of saying “yes” to new adventures was yours?
I am a Christian, and I’ve lived as a missionary most of my life. I said “yes” to new adventures all over the world, so stepping outside my comfort zone was part of my life.
If you want to say “yes” but don’t know how right now, here is how I have done it, and I know you can, too.
The first step in stepping outside your comfort zone and the most important step is getting out of fear based decisions.
Remove the Fear factor.
Fear of the unknown, fear of doing the impossible, fear of what others will say, fear of failure, fear of letting people down, and fear of finances. These fears keep us from saying “yes” to God’s adventures for our lives. Let’s call it quits with fear.
As you want to embark on a new adventure as a Christian, don’t let fear hold you back. Live the life God wants you to live. If God wants you to say “yes,” take the leap. Step out of your comfort zone, especially if that comfort zone is one made from your fears or others fears for you.
I know it’s hard to do. I was living as a missionary in Eastern Europe. Things had finally changed after years of struggle, persistence, and prayer. I ran programs and conducted large outreaches that were getting media coverage and reaching more people. I had incredible friends and a team of women who would have crossed the desert with me.
Then, I felt God tell me to come home and start something new in a field where I knew nothing about and I needed training and education to do. It felt like a gut punch.
For years, I was excluded because I was an American. It took years of service and nights of isolation, but finally, I was living my dream. Then, God gave me a new dream. I moved back home and started completely from scratch.
The next thing you need to do is,
Step out in faith
I will be honest. I have always liked change. It thrills me, and traveling to new places and learning new cultures has always been in my DNA. So when I felt it was time to come home to the familiar, to my own culture, it was a struggle.
I stepped out in faith.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
Romans 10:17
Faith is part of our beliefs as Christians. Yet, it’s also the challenge as we grow in our relationship with God.
Take a moment and think about the areas you need to grow in faith. Are you believing in something that hasn’t happened? Are you waiting for change? Is the business of life stopping you from moving forward?
Then, ask yourself if there is something you need to say “yes” to in the adventure that God has for you as a Christian to grow your faith.
- Leading a small group
- Going on a mission trip
- Restoring a relationship
- Forgiving someone who hurt you
What is the “yes” you need to say for your faith to grow. Then next it’s time to trust God in the process.
Trust God in the process
The process won’t always be easy when you say “yes.” The criticism, judgment, and negative attitudes will not magically go away because you have taken a leap of faith. You will probably have the cheerleaders and the critics giving their opinions.
Don’t worry and keep trusting God. The road can be easy or hard, but I believe if you are walking in faith and trusting in God, you will see miracles happen in your life.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways, submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Pray and proclaim the word of God over your life
Say “yes” and start praying and proclaiming God’s word over your life. This might be the most impactful thing you can do for yourself and your family, next to accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior.
Spend time in prayer and ask God to bring you a scripture that you can proclaim for this new season of “yes” in your life. Let me leave you with a scripture to encourage you to say “yes” to the new adventures God has for you.
“Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.”
Matthew 15:28
If you have never heard this from anyone know that I believe you have great faith!
And God will show the path, you just need to say “yes” to the adventure Jesus has for you.
