Here are a few of my top mission trip destinations for Christian Women.
This is my top list of countries for mission trips. These are places I’ve experienced firsthand and done humanitarian and/or missions or a combination of both at each country.
I have been in missions for over 20 years. When I was 18, I left my home state of Texas and traveled to France, where I got trained with Youth With A Mission. I loved France so much I spent the next two years training and sharing the gospel.
From that moment on, missions and, experiencing different cultures has been a part of my life. I have been so blessed to have traveled to over 27 countries and lived in numerous continents around the world.
So here is my list of Countries I loved doing missions in, places that changed my life as a Christian woman, and places I would travel back to in a heartbeat.
- Asia: The top of my list of mission trip destinations is,

Asia: The top of my list of mission trip destinations is,
Thailand
The country and its people are full of love and hospitality.
Through my trips to Thailand, I’ve made lifelong friends. Although you have to be aware of your surroundings when you travel, I never felt unsafe during my frequent trips.
Pluses of Thailand:
- People are loving and generous.
- A large number of Christians.
- Open to receive and listen.
Challenges for Christian Women:
- Tribal villages are hard to reach.
- Rainy season can change schedules.
- Travel from the Western world is expensive.
Types of missions, short term, and long term. Construction, micro-learning skills training, justice missions, children’s camps, and medical missions run in and through Thailand. For long-term missions, trade skills for women and Engish as A Second Language.
Organizations I would recommend:
- Samaritans Purse
- Youth With A Mission
South America: The next of top mission trip destinations for Christian women
Peru
Short-term mission trips to Peru are lovely for people in North America because the flights and transportation are so easy. The cost can be kept relatively low, and the people are warm and friendly.
Pluses of Peru
- Short flights from the United States
- Affordable for a mission trip
- People are friendly and receptive
Challenges for Christian Women
- Food and water can be prepared uncleanly.
- Water can be cut off for short time periods.
- Altitude sickness.
Types of missions, both short and long-term. Constructions, children’s ministry, vocational training, medical.
The organization I would recommend:
- Latin Equip
- Youth with a Mission
Europe: The next on my top mission trip destination is
France
My life in missions started in France and it will always have a place in my heart. And like Audruy Hepburn said “Paris is always a good idea.” I truly love missions in France. It is also the most challenging place I have ever shared the gospel.
One summer, during a three-week evangelical campaign with hundreds of people sharing on the streets, only five peoplebecame Christians. From my first trip to France years ago to my recent one a few years back, many things have changed in terms of religion.
Pluses for France
- The obvious it’s France-beautiful
- Safe food and water
- Easy access from the Western World.
Challenges
- Language barrier-you will need to learn French.
- Expensive travel and stay.
- The cultural barrier to sharing the gospel. (Intellect can supersede faith with many French people)
Trips can be short-term or long-term missions. The focus of most trips is sharing your faith and homeless outreach.
Organizations:
- Jeunesse en Mission (short and long term)
- France Mission I have not worked with them personally(short and long-term missions)
Africa: The next on mission trip destination for Christian Women is
South Africa
There are many opportunities to serve in Africa. I love Africa—the people, the land, the music, and the dancing. It’s easy to fall in love with this country. There is no place like it in the world. Dancing is a part of who they are, and they will start dancing immediately if something good is happening. So it’s one of my favorite places to go and share the love of Christ.
If you also have the time to go on a Safari, it can really deepen your faith. Seeing animals in their natural habitat and experiencing the sunrise and sunset on the African plains is life-changing.
Types of missions, both short and long-term. Constructions, children’s ministry, vocational training, medical.
Pluses
- Visiting Africa.
- Friendly and receptive people
- Access to good food and water
Challenges for Christian women
- Safety: things can change rapidly
- Cost for travel
- Travel time and distance from the Western World.
Organizations:
This is the second country on this continent I have put on the list and there is a reason. It’s classified by many as an unreached people group. It’s a great place to experience missions because of the people and the safety of the nation.
Asia: The next top mission trip destinations,
Japan
In Japan, only 2% of people profess Christianity as their religion. It has one of the lowest rates of Christianity in all of Asia. They also have a high suicide rate. Even though it’s very modern, the people are an unreached people group.
“Suicide is the leading cause of death in men between the ages of 20-44 and women between the ages of 15-34.”
World Population Review
To me, Japan is almost like an unreached people group. They have access to Christianity and freedom to be Christian.
I’ve been to Japan several times, twice for relief work after the Tsunami. It’s beautiful, safe, and clean, and the people are friendly and welcoming.
Big shout out to Japan; it’s one of the only airports in the world, and if you arrive within 15 minutes before your next flight, you can make it. And it has a bullet train. It’s also one of the safest countries with very low theft.
I really like Japan, and the short-term mission trips I have gone on have enriched my life and prayerfully changed those I was serving.
Types of missions, both short and long-term. Children’s ministry, evangelism, and English camps.
Pluses
- Very safe
- Good food and clean water
- Organized
- Great transportation.
Challenges for Christian women
- Travel distance from Western World
- Possible Isolation for beliefs
- Cost of living
Organizations:
- YWAM Japan
- Japan Mission (I have not personally gone on missions with them)
North America: The last on my list of top mission trip destinations for Christian women is
America
If you are from the U.S.A., a hometown mission trip is an excellent opportunity to see your city, state, or nation in a new light. If you’re not from America, consider opportunities to serve your own country. Or come to the U.S.A. and do a mission trip here.
This is from my own American woman perspective. There are many ways to serve right here in America. Inner cities are ripe with opportunities to serve. Many local churches see the need and desire for mission opportunities closer to home.
Types of missions, both short and long-term. Constructions, children’s ministry, street outreach, justice outreach, feeding programs, and youth camps.
Pluses
- Low cost
- Easy transportation
- Safe food and water
Challenges
- Safety (certain areas can be at higher risk for crime)
- Need a car (in many places, you might need a car)
Here are some opportunities for mission trips in the U.S. from Bethany Global University. The Praying Pelican Missions also runs mission trips within the U.S., and they provide training for participants. And focus on local church partnerships and sustainable ministry practice. {Although I would like to go on a mission trip with them, I haven’t been able to as of yet.}

If you’re not sure about taking a mission trip take your time and pray I know there is the right trip out there for you. I will leave you with this scripture.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age”
Matthew 28:19-20
